Fine Fountain Pen

Fountain pens dating from the first half of the 20th century are more likely to have flexible nibs, suited to the favored handwriting styles of the period (eg: Copperplate and Spencerian Script ). By the 1940s, writing preferences had shifted towards stiffer nibs that could withstand the greater pressure required for writing through copy paper to create duplicate documents. Fountain pen collectors and enthusiasts will enjoy our selection of both modern and vintage fountain pens and related items. At Pendemonium fountain pen collectors will find fountain pen inks, inkwells, pen storage, reference books, writing papers and journals, fountain pen and pencil repair supplies, and information on upcoming pen shows. Fountain pens sell today as a classic writing instrument and the original pens have become very hot collectibles.

Ink flows poorly or not at all. And, they may put out too much ink, even in the form of a sudden blob of ink that runs over a document and onto clothing. Ink is supplied and stored in an on-chip reservoir, and subsequently fed through the microchannels by capillarity to reach a volcano-shape dispensing tip attached at the end of the cantilever. Batch-fabricated chips can be mounted into commercial atomic force microscopes. Inks in the red, violet and pink colours are more likely to stain the container sectionof the pen. Yep, the plastic convertor does have a purple tone to it that is there for life.

Parker Quink Blue-Black also had some bleed through but little feathering. The first great combination I hit upon was my Hero 331 (a Parker 51 inspired pen) and my custom blended Waterman Dark Red (Bottle of Waterman Red with some black ink to taste). Parker is still my favourite. My school insisted that we should use fountain pens, not ballpoint or rollerballs or any of that nonsense.

Waterman solved these problems by inventing the capillary feed which produced even ink flow. Now fountain pen history is repeating itself in the tiny world of nanoscale writing. Waterman Florida Blue seems to be one of the most popular inks of pen aficionados. This is probably the ink you should buy with your fountain pen if you don't want to make a statement by using a less traditional color. Waterman introduced the disposable cartridge for the fountain pen and perfected it during WWII. But the final achievement in fountain pens belongs to Parker who in 1956 introduced the capillary filling system.

Fountain pen people can talk about nibs all day. I acknowledge that I am attracted to this part of the pen. Fountain pens should be cleaned occasionally. Monthly is a good period between cleanings although if a pen is used daily with the same in (like Sheaffer Blue - a thin ink) one could go for months between cleanings. Fountain pen barrels can be made from a wide variety of materials. Finer, more expensive pens are made from materials such as brass, silver, or gold.

Fountain pens write using their own weight on paper, you do not need to apply additional pressure as you do with other types of pen. This generally leads to minimal hand cramping, which can be a real problem when writing pages of notes with a ballpoint.
